Need help getting fancy with bullet animations

I'm using PowerPoint 2007 and trying to get fancy with some builds on
bulleted points in my presentation.

I want to present a bullet with a "fill in the blank" area and then update
it with the correct info filled in. For example:

1) 2007 was the ______ year in the history of real estate sales.

and then update the bullet to read

1) 2007 was the fifth best year in the history of real estate sales. (With
"fifth best" still underlined)

I can do this by making identical slides with the underlined text first
matching the background color and then changing to the same color as the
rest of the text. But then I need 20 slides to build the 10 bullet points
I'm trying to make. There should be a way to make my bullet points
transition in first with the blank and then the complete statement.

TIA for guidance on how to do this!

Hi Balroc,

I know how you can accomplish this in 10 slides. Have you ever used the
Animations feature before? To do this, you would show slide 1 as follows:

1) 2007 was the ______ year in the history of real estate sales.

And then, you add a Fly In animation to the words 'Fifth Best' to fly in an
fill in the blank in slide 1.

There is some help content on Office Online that can show you how to do this:

Here's a demo about the Animation feature:

Here's an article: Animate text or objects --

And one more article about specific animations:

Balroc,

I need to clarify -- actually, what I meant was you can do it on one slide
-- just add 10 fly-in animations to the one slide to fill in each of the
bulleted blanks. You don't need 10 slides to do this. Sorry for the mis-info.

Thanks, John.

This is very helpful and gets most of what I wanted accomplished. But, it
still seems that the lowest level I can apply an animation to is the entire
bullet. I'm trying to just have this apply to two words within the bullet
line.

If you have ideas on how to do that, I'd appreciate that.
