I have XP and my volume icon does not show up anymore. I went to Control
Panel and found Sounds and Auido Devices and selected Volume Tab. It says
that there is no audio device and Device Volume where is says place volume
icon in the task bar is grayed out. I had previously installed the software
for Olympus digital tape recorder (which I think creates
sndvol32.exe-38348087.pf file under C:\windowd\prefetch directory). I ahd
problem starting this program so I tried uninstalling it and I think this
created some problem since the I was logged in with a different account than
what this softawre was installed in. I don't know what do and would greately
appreciate help on this matter. Thanks

Look in Device Manager. Are there any Unknown Devices? Try reinstalling
your soundcard drivers. System Restore is another option that you could
try.
