Need help - chkdsk auto starts from cold boot, runs repeatedly for

Please help - Not sure what to do next. From cold boot my computer starts
CHKDSK automatically and runs over and over again. It only gets to stage 2
at 1 percent, shuts down and starts all over again. I cannot read the
message which flashes for one second at the end of it as it is way too
rapidly on and off of screen, before it shuts down and starts again. It does
this for hours. Have gone into safe mode, to command under run, put in
chkdsk, and it finishes saying there are 6 files being deleted in stage two
and that it cannot go any further. I have done a tech support search and
cannot find any information on how to proceed to fix this so computer will
work in normal mode.

If you have a Windows XP CD-ROM, you can boot to it and enter the
Recovery Console. Once booted do a Chkdsk C: /R. Sometimes there
are errors on the volume that cannot be fixed by the pre-GUI Chkdsk.

If you don't have a Windows XP CD, you can accomplish a similar type
of Chkdsk using a Bart's PE bootdisk.

Do you know ( or estimate ) how much free space is available on your
Windows drive/volume ?

Thank you for such a rapid reply. I have Windows XP Office Professional
(Academic Version) and Windows X Home. Not sure which one you mean. I,
unfortunately do not know where to look to see how much space is left on
Windows drive/volume.

You would need a Windows XP CD-ROM. The disk itself is bootable
and provides a mode of operation called "Recovery Console", sort of a
minimal version of Windows that looks and operates like a Command
Prompt window to allow you to run certain commands.

To use the Recovery Console you can use "Any" kind of XP CD-ROM.
It doesn't have to match the version installed on your machine as you
won't be using the disk for installation. Perhaps you know someone
who has a disk and would loan it to you or make a copy of it.

One issue with Chkdsk is that as it makes changes to the drive to resolve
errors it can ( and sometimes does ) remove data. Hopefully, you have
your personal data backed up or use some kind of Imaging program to
protect your setup.

Got files backed up and followed instructions. Operating System CD in CD
drive, F12ed upon blue Dell logo appearing, selected CD-Rom option, pressed
enter, to recover current Windows data, Typed R to select repair. Do NOT
know how to proceed to recover from here. Next question on screen is which
Windows Program do you want to use? Believe it is 1. Next question is
Administrator Password? I entered the password I have used repeatedly in
Windows Operations and it does not work. Believe this must be an assigned
password from Windows/Dell on previous reinstallation of operating system
last January. Do not have any experience in the Mother Board, which has also
been replaced on this computer, and prefer not to go there. Any suggestions
