need help booting my system (Windows/system32/config/system confli

After several power outages my system stopped booting. I received the
message "Windows could not start because Windows/system32/config/system
conflict is either currupt or missing.

Now I've tried the solution that microsoft provides (fixing the registry via
DoS) but it won't work. It's interesting to note that the same operating
system is installed on the same patition, and that the second version of
windows XP DOES run.

Any suggestions?

Also how do I delete the existing XP from the partition? I don't want to
have 2 versions of the same OS in the same drive..
