You better talk real nice to the @holes from MyHelpHub.com because there is no reasonable way to retrieve anything from a tape except to use the software that wrote it unless you have serious technical skills and special software like that used by disaster recovery service providers.

Not to preach when you are down but you are learning a lesson many of us have learned the hard way just like you. Misery really does love company :-)

60-80 Gb Hard Drives are only $40-$60 these days. You should start using another hard drive on your system as a backup strategy where you can use software from Acronis to create and store images to backup the OS and applications and another inexpensive backup FILE COPY software that backs up files without compression which should be optional so you can use Windows Explorer to restore anything at anytime. Total cost less than $150 and as reliable as it gets.

Good luck and hang in there.

Even easier, install a second drive and set the system up with RAID 5

Actually, all that is needed is a second HD, then the installation of NTBackup, then set a daily
backup schedule.

Windows XP Home users have to install it from the CD, Windows XP Pro users it is installed
automatically.
