Need facts to back me up!

Hi everyone - Wondering if I can ask for some help?!

The company I work for needs 25 licences to run Access on everyones machine
and thinks this is too expensive. The current suggestion is to load Microsoft
Access on the server and for everyone to access the program that way.

Now - I know that's the wrong way to go about it, but what reasons can I
give my boss?? I've already said that it will slow the server down
considerably and if anything 'buggers up' we will be screwed because there's
only one copy.

Anything else you can think of? Thanks heaps!!!

Unless those users share PCs, they'd still require 25 licences anyway.
Here's a quote from the Office 2003 EULA (End-User Licence Agreement) ...

You must have a copy of Access on each machine - won't work otherwise. But
can get 'run time' version which is less expensive.

Facts? Obviously you'll never make it as a politician.

I once had the displeasure of using Access that was out on the server as you
mentioned. It was horrible! If someone was using a wizard, no one else could.
All kinds of strange things happened. It really put a hurting on the entire
network. Plus I don't know if it's even legal to do so. That could really
cost the company big money in fines if caught.

Are all 25 individuals going to be developing Access databases or just using
a few developed by other people? If just using Access, you could have one or
two people with the Developers toolkit (or whatever MS is calling it this
week) to create MDEs and distribute the runtime that way.

You could also create Active Server Pages on your network so that people
could query the database using Internet Explorer.

Either way will probably entail basically a full time Access developer.

Agreed. The best solution except for those few who are power users
and create their own queries and reports and such. The cost of the
runtime is about the same as an Office license or, just guessing,
three MS Access licenses.
