Windows Mail will not receive e-mails; problem started yesterday. Have
McAfee Security Center and Vista Home Premium. Mail program hangs on
"authenticating" and log in pop-up keeps popping up for user name and
password. Error message is: Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR login failed',
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number:
0x800CCC92......please help?!

That wasn't it for me; have been using Windows Mail program since last
September without problem...all of a sudden yesterday, this problem started.
Thanks

Tools | Accounts
Select the account and click Properties.
On the Servers tab re-enter the username and password agreed to by you and
your server,

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Re-entered username and pass word; disabled McAfee, but the problem continues
as before.

Had to login with my original name and pw from the outlook express days
before it switched over to windows mail and vista.

Now I'm really confused, but after I re-enabled McAfee, I tried the Windows
Mail again, and it's now working perfectly. I am receiving e-mails again.
Thank heaven!! Thanks for the help!!!

Chances are, that problem will return.
McAfee antivirus is one of the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
