Check your settings. Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account,
click Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

If it was already unchecked, which antivirus are you running?

Gary

I unchecked the box. I think that it might be ok but I will let you know.

My computer is a Sony Vaio and I have Windows security center and everything
is on

Also Superantispyware. Thanks

You're very welcome. Thanks for reporting back.
If you had that setting checked, it will definitely cause that problem.

I also have a sony viao. Have similar problem which started soon after
setting up my new laptop. Emails are sending but not receiving. The error
box is mostly empty (strange) but gave this same message on one occasion. I
have the box unchecked.

Not aware that I have anti virus sortware installed as yet.

thanks

Most new computers come with a trial version of McAfee or
Norton antivirus. To avoid Windows Mail problems, those antivirus
programs must be uninstalled properly, and followed up by using the
appropriate cleanup tool.
