Hello,

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 on which I have installed Windows 98. I
have gotten some drivers from the DELL website but am having trouble
getting the correct sound card driver.

The Dell website shows a picture of the rear of the box woth possible
sound cards installed and asks me to choose the one that looks correct.
None look correct.

The pictures of the removable cards show 3 jacks plus a DB connector. My
card has 3 jacks but no DB connector.

Some text on the card are
"137045 Audio PCI 39" and "US-0088GF-47131-09K-54GV" on one label
and "Creative Technologies LTD" on another label.

How can I ID this sound card and get a driver for it?

no joystick controller?
this is a removable sound card? Dells are more likely to have OB sound than
an expansion card.

Hello JAD,
no joystick controller?

That is correct.

I presume that you meant to say MB rather than 0B. I have two of these
machines that were phased out of a business office. Both are equipped
the same except for different hard drives.

Windows 98 Plug and Play wants to install PCI 64V drivers but the needed
files are not on the Windows 98 CD and I don't have a CD for that sound
card. Months ago I downloaded 64V drivers and attempted to install but
that did not work either. I have no photo of a PCI 64V so cannot verify
if that is the correct model. I just have a Windows 98 questionable
driver installation saying that it found a Creative PCI 64V.

Anyway, it is labeled as by Creative and has three external jacks
labeled for microphone, line and speaker. There are also 5 internal edge
connectors. One of these is for CD audio.

Perhaps the original owner replaced the sound cards shiped with the Dell
Dimension 4100. No way for me to know now. I do know that everything,
including sound, was working when they gave these two computers to an
employee rather than trash them.

Any help appreciated. Maybe point me to a photo of a PCI 64V so I can
determine if that is what I have, or not.

Hi ,
if the card is not the original you can download and run a program
called pcigui . it will id the hardware on your system . if you post
a copy of the summary report it will aid in the driver search .
pcigui is available free at :

Hello All,

Took a chance that it might be a PCI 64V and downloaded that driver from
the Dell website. Worked fine.

Thanx to all for the suggestions.
