Need Assistance: IE 6.0 will not complete setup on Windows ME

IE 6.0 setup stops at 78% and will not install further.

CAUSE: Norton successfully intercepted a virus. Somehow
IE 6.0 was corrupted.

1) I Need to reinstall IE 6.0. Existing IE version is
5.5. Some software that I have only runs on IE 6.0.

2) Tried to reinstall IE 6.0 from CD and Microsoft's
site, but it setup stopped at 78%. Also searched
Microsoft's self-help documents, but no articles on IE 6.0
had info to resolve problem.

Did Norton intercept the virus after you downloaded IE 6.0 setup or while
your were downloading the setup. I suggest you download the IE6.0 setup
file to your computer and then get the files to download directly to your
computer. I think the command line to get it to download all the files to
your computer is (without the quotation marks at the beginning and end of
the line:


"X:\xyz\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

(X is the drive letter. Replace it with the drive that IE6.0 setup is. xyz
is the folder name. Replace it with the folder that IE6.0 setup is.)

Type the above command line in Start > Run.

I'm not sure whether this is the correct command line. This worked with
IE6.0 SP1, so it might not work with IE6.0 installation.

Also during the installation you might want to disable any virus scanners
that you have active. Because these may probably interfere with the
installation.
