Hello,
I was recently unable to get my CD-ROM to work on a Pentium 3, Dell
Inspiron laptop. I decided to try and reinstall Windows XP using the
Dell provided Windows XP cd. I loaded the cd and changed the BIOS to
boot to the cd-rom. I first had it try a repair. This did not work,
so I had it install or re-install a version of Windows XP (can't
remember what it said). After it finished copying files, etc., it
rebooted and then on getting to the Windows XP splash screen a window
came up asking for an asms file with this entered in the path text box:
"globalroot\device\cdrom\i386" I tried to change the path or something
to that effect, but nothing has worked.
I have a lot of problems with this laptop from the get go. I went
ahead and ordered a new laptop, but I would still like to be able to
get to the files on my hard drive. If I need to finish re-installing
Windows XP, please let me know what I need to do next. If I can get to
these files without finishing that and copy them to an external usb
drive, please let me know. I am getting desperate.
I also do not have any floppy drives, but I have a friend who is
willing to loan me his usb floppy drive.
Any ideas?
TIA,
Jason
