This is for my mom's computer. It's a newer HP running Windows XP Home
Edition sp2.
I boot the computer and the HP loading screen displays then it shows a
message reading:

Starting Windows Millenium Emergency Boot
Type the name of the command interpreter (e.g. , C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)
A>_

I really have no idea what to do about this and any help or ideas would be
greatly appreciated. What really confuses me is that it says in emergency
booting Windows Me but that computer is running Windows XP.

Thanks

There may be a floppy disk in the floppy drive.
If there is, remove it.

It is trying to access the recovery procedure but i fail to see why. The
emergency boot simply boot the machine to DOS. From there HP, no doubt,
have a command procedure to access hidden files to re-install the operating
system.
I'm not familiar with the way HP access their Windows XP files ont he PC. My
own machine has recovery disks for this purpose.
It might be worth visiting the HP website or contacting HP Support.
Obviously telephoning support will be expensive, but they should have an
email tech support option. It will take longer for a reply, however.

Since you want ANY ideas, i would STRONGLY suggest to format and reinstall
the OS.
The information that you provided is not enough. Please give information
about the number of hard drive(s), because for possibility of multi booting,
has the problem occurred in the first place, etc. Thaaaaaaaaaaaaank you for
reading!!! =)

If you don't think they've given enough information, then why in the
world would you suggest they format and reinstall?
