Need a tool to monitor network

Hi,

Could someone recommend a tool (hardware or software) to monitor our
network?

We had a problem yesterday where our network seemed to be getting flooded.
One thing I observed was that the LED's on the switch were blinking all at
the same time as if something was sending packets to all networked objects
at the same time. Typically, you'll see those LED's blinking at their own
pace because everybosy is doing something different.

This went on for a while and during this time some of the servers in the
network became inaccessible and the network came to a crawl.

Has anybody experienced anything like this?

What tool could I use to monitor network activity so that I can pinpoint
where the network traffic is coming from?

Thanks,

Sam

Network Monitor comes with Windows 2000 Server and works like any other
packet sniffer. If you've got Win2K Server just install it and see if it
does what you need:

1. Go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.
2. Select add/Remove Windows Components.
3. Add Network Monitor Tools under Management and Monitoring Tools.
