i have a hp pavilion 734 pc.when i bought it i was never
given a disk for windows xp in case anything ever
dissapeared from my pc etc.anyway i rung up and was told
that apparently these disks arent given as the computer
already has it on there so if you were to lose anything
it wouldnt need the disk as the computer will do it
itself.is this correct.has anyone else got a hp pavilion
pc and not been given a disk????

i have a pavilion 9800 build-to-order type system from
Circuit City. HP did same to me. they give you a disk
that has all of their crap on it, advertisements and
everything else. i got xp home for christmas and wanted
to format, so i partitioned hard drive, then formatted.
it asked me for an original windows disk to verify that i
was eligible for the upgrade. the disk they gave me could
install windows me on my pc, but didn't get recognized as
an original windows disk. my recommendation is "screw
Microsoft" and just borrow someone else's windows disk and
use it for verification only. they screw us every way
they can and it ticks me off. just reformat with a clean
install off your xp disk. this is my first and probably
only time ever on here, so don't reply to mine. good luck
man

HP puts the restore information on a hidden partition on the hard drive.
However, if your hard drive goes bad and you're out of warranty, you're
pretty much out of luck. Really good reason not to buy an HP computer.
