Navigation disappeared - can't get index.htm as home page

I imported a folder containing web pages from my desktop to my web on my
computer.
Then the entire navigation disappeared, including the home page.
All the files are still there, but the top part of the navigation view is
blank and it says to "click on NEW PAGE to create a home page"
When I do this, it creates a new page, but not in the top portion of the
screen and I am unable to click and drag it to the home position.
So the question is...how do I get my index.htm to be the home page in the
navigation? And then, do I have to manually rebuild all the navigation by
clicking and dragging all the files? And 3rd question, how do I prevent this
from happening again.

Never import a FP web if you have the ability to open the site/folder in FP and then publishing it
to another location, otherwise you will loose the structure of the web, and have to redo, themes,
shared borders, navigation, etc.

I didn't import a FP web. I have a program that makes web pages for me and
puts them into a folder. I only imported this folder. It had never been in FP
before this. If FP provides this tool, then why does it remove the structure?
I'm just importing a folder containing pages that becomes a subfolder of the
existing web.
I will make a note of this, thank you. Having to redo the navigation
structure of over 6000 pages will remind me.
So there is no way to get my structure back, correct? And there is no way to
make my index page the home page in the navigation view, correct? And if I
make an html page in any other program, that page(s) should not be imported
to FP?

I'm disappointed. But thank you for your assistance.

Ok, if all you did was import a folder of web pages, that were not created in FP, into a FP web then
it shouldn't have effected your navigation structure of the web, unless you overwrote the home page.

When you created your web and set up the navigation structure FP create a home, what was the name
that is gave it, default.htm, index.htm?

You're using a different program to generate pages and then bring them into FP?...never mind.

If your hosted web has FP extensions, open your site live with FP, then Publish the version from your server back to your local hd...that will fix your navigation problem IF the server version is undamaged by your importing those pages.
