NAV install completes but program is not there

After I updated to XP and learned how to uninstall NAV, I
tried to reinstall. I put the CD in the Autoplay begins
and the program goes through the install. After it
finishes the "rollback," whatever that is, the installer
closes. When I go to start it tells me that "A new progam
has been installed." When I look for this new program it
is not there and there is no desktop Icon/shortcut. I
look on the C-Drive for the Norton folder which is there
and the only thing inside is a file call something
like "defloc." If I go to Add/Remove programs NAV is not
there, but Live Update and Live Reg is installed.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

You need to uninstall Norton, then reinstall it after upgrading
to Windows XP. Use the following tool:

How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus by using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606

Remember to perform the "Live Update" several times after you reinstall
your Norton program.

"Rollback" means that the installer has encountered something that it
thinks is a problem and is "rolling back" its attempt to install --
i.e., it is NOT completing the install.

Although I like NAV and have used it for a long time, it can be quite
touchy, especially if you fail to uninstall it before upgrading to
WinXP. The recommended solution is to "completely" uninstall it before
you attempt to install. You say that you "learned how to uninstall
NAV." What did you do?

Symantec gives different methods/tools to uninstall NAV depending on
what version you had before the upgrade. There is pretty good help on
this topic in its knowledge base. For example, http://tinyurl.com/24jpe
is the article describing how to completely uninstall NAV 2004. You can
start your search for relevant articles at
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/activedata/asa_index.jsp which also has
a link to Symantec's "Automated Support Assistant."

I am using NAV 2003. I have also use NAV for a long time
and now I clearly understand how NAV can be touchy....Now
that I have upgrade with out uninstalling 1st.

The inital problem was that I could not uninstall norton.
I went to the Norton website put in the error code and it
told me how to remove a registry key. I followed the
directions and sure enough I was able to uninstall. I
restarted the computer and then continued to uninstall
Live Update. I restarted the computer again and checked to
make sure that all Norton products were removed. Once I
finished checking I tried to reinstall and that is where I
encountered the rollback issue.

Thanks,

Ray

I would have tried that but it was not found on my
computer. I had to go to Norton web and find the registry
fix. Once I finished that I was able to uninstall via the
Add/Remove progam buttons.

I removed all Norton products and then tried to reinstall.
that is where I encountered the "Rollback" issues. Still
unable to install.

Thanks,

Ray

Here is something to try that I had to do one time. Run
the nortan uninstall. Reboot. Then edit the registry
searching for symantex, norton, liveupdate and delete all
the registry keys. Then reinstall nortons.
For some reason the norton uninstall(for me)did not delete
all the registry keys which caused an error when
reinstalling.

You have to do considerably more than just remove a registry key. This
http://tinyurl.com/2hzpm explains how to completely remove NAV 2003.
Follow all of the steps. I don't know if by removing the registry key
you will have prevented rnav2003 from working properly. Unfortunately,
I couldn't find a Symantec help article on how to remove NAV 2003
manually. If rnav2003 fails, take a look at http://tinyurl.com/35pc7
which describes how to remove NAV 2002 manually. This is a long,
complex process.
