Native ZIP compression broken?

C

Chris Nelder

I recently built a Windows 2003 Server machine, and have
applied all of the updates to it. I have found several
instances where I tried to open a ZIP file and it gave the
error "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or
corrupted".

I downloaded WinZip and it was able to open those same
files with no problem.

I find no KB articles that address this issue. There are
two articles that pertain to this error, but only with
specific circumstances that are not the case here (e.g., a
ZIP file sent to me by email).

I suspect that something is broken with the ZIP technology
embedded in Windows. Anybody else have experience with
this issue?

I have experienced the same problem in WinXP. My guess is that the built-in
(de)compression routine in XP is less sophisticated compared to many
dedicated programs (like WinZip).

Yeah, I did. There is no newsgroup for Windows 2003
Server. XP is the closest thing to it that I
found...closer than Win2K.

Thanks Kelly, I'll try that.
