Lately I've also been using MySQL Query Browser, from the MySQL people
themselves:

I used to use MySQL Front:

But after a trial period certain features are disabled. I guess that's
crippleware, right

Yep, it's shareware. What's more, most hosting companies (except
for dedicated hosting services) deny sql connections through third
party applications and only authorise webbased sql access through
perl or php.

Anyone know how to get this? You have to provide your name and email
address to get the download page, which displays 9 download mirror
sites. One I'm not authorised to view, one has a link back to the
dbtools site, and the others I can find no reference to dbtools. Is
this just an email address harvester?

I don't see what your problem is.. I followed their procedure
which is very simple & standard, and got the page with links.
I selected to download from PHPManiacs.com and the download
started immediatly. File size is 4.x meg.

You may also want to do a GoOgle search for that title.

If you assume that anyone who asks for a name is harvesting
is a bit unreasonable, since they are GIVING you a very real
product for FREE. So, to ask for a way to reach you should
they want to is not unreasonable and is used by every
software producer that is worth bean.. What was of note is
that they had no clear policy statement regarding privacy and
all that stuff, but to be honest, I don't normally read such.
As to the possibility of it containing "3rd party" scumware,
that is a risk that we all have to take, and if you are well
protected then you should be ok.

So, if you download this, and use it, then let us know, since
I am also involved in WAMP work..

btw1: if you want a book about SQL in general there is a link
in the left menu, which will require you to enter simple
info. including e-mail, to which a password will be sent.

PHPManiacs, like all the other links, just produced the home page, no
download, hence my concern.
