MySQL newsgroup proposed

Phred

G'day mates,

If you're interested in the freeware MySQL database system, you may be
interested to know that there is a proposal to create a newsgroup for
the program:

<quoting>
From: "George Augustino" <[email protected]>
Newsgroups:
news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,comp.databases,comp.lang.php,alt.
php
Subject: RFD: comp.databases.mysql
Date: Mon, 22 Nov 2004 22:00:11 +0000

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group comp.databases.mysql

Newsgroup line:
comp.databases.mysql MySQL relational database system discussion
group.

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup comp.databases.mysql.
This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Procedural details are below.

RATIONALE: comp.databases.mysql

MySQL is a relational database server that is finding increasingly
wide acceptance as a backend solution for developing data-driven
Web sites and applications. MySQL is a free, open-source, professional
quality database system similar to Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
MySQL is a more powerful alternative to Microsoft Access databases,
but without the expensive costs of other database servers. There
is no newsgroup for MySQL, so this is the time to create one for
the rapidly growing user base.
</quoting>

There's a bit more detail in the Newsgroups mentioned above, and no
doubt there will be followup discussion there before the formal CFV.

Cheers, Phred.

Thanks Phred. I certainly am interested. It's a pity it isn't
specifically a windows approach to MySQL though. :-(
Perhaps comp.databases.mysql.win ?

Regards, John.

First you have to get "comp.databases.mysql" through the voting process,
then you have to show that there is enough windows specific traffic to
justify a split.

One step at a time, you can walk around the world, as long as you don't
tie your shoelaces together.

Make sure that you keep an eye on news.groups and don't miss the CFV.

Cheers,
Gary B-)
