My Word wont let me type.... please help more info in the message

My word keeps saying, "This modification is not allowed because the selection
is locked". I'm clueless about what that means and its not letting me type.
If you can help me please respond asap I need to finish an essay for my
college.

Sounds like you either have an expired trial version or haven't activated
your copy. If it's the former, time to buy Word/Office. If it's the later,
activate it.

You just need to unlock it. Try pressing that little padlock icon at the
bottom right. If it's not there, then go View, toolbars and go through all
the toolbars till you've found it. I'm not sure which one it is, someone's
just updated my Word behind my back and I can't use it any more. If you've
got Word 2007, then you'll unlock it by going Review, I think-but you'll need
a password
