Either the trial version of Office you are using has expired or you have not
activated it.

Did you uninstall the trial before installing your paid version?

Was the trial verion previously installed or installed as of when you
obtained the computer? If is was, and if you did not uninstall it before
installing the boxed/paid version, then it's possible that both are
installed and you're unwittingly using the expired trial version instead of
the paid version.

So... go into the control panel's Programs and Features (assuming you're
using Vista, and not XP), and see if two versions are installed. If so,
check the installation dates--the paid version would have been installed
after the trial version. Uninstall the trial version, and see if that fixes
the problem.

If the trial version is not installed and never was installed, then there's
a different problem. But, your symptoms suggests that JoAnn's and Graham's
dianosis is the source of your problem.

Ideally you should have uninstalled the trial version before installing the
paid version. Your computer still thinks you are running the trial version.
Time to uninstall all versions of Office, reboot, and then install the paid
version.
