I am having trouble figuring out why other can't browse to my machine
on our network. This happen at home and at work.

At home, I have 3 machine all connected to a Linksys broadband router.
All three are wirelessly connected. All 3 can access the Internet
without issue. I have a WIN XP Pro machine, Win ME machine and Win
2000 machine.

The Win XP machine can browse to any of the machine without issue.
Neither of the machines can access the Win XP machine however. All
the machine show up in my Linksys DHCP table. Even when directly
entering the IP address of the Win XP machine, the other two machine
can't access it. The get a message saying that the machine isn't
accessible.

I don't have the Windows firewall enabled. And I have file and print
sharing enabled.

I just installed an HP EW5000 media player in my home theater, which
is also connected to the Linksys router. It is DHCP and the Linksys
DHCP table shows an IP address for it. The Media server software is
installed on my Win XP machine. The hardware in my home theater then
accessing the Win XP machine through my network to receive the music
and photo content.

The media player hardware can't "see" the server software on my Win XP
machine. But when I install the software on either of the other
non-XP machines everything works fine.

It seems like this is the same problem, manifesting itself in two
different ways.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Most Windows OS's require you to login to the remote machine before i
becomes available. This same thing has happened between two X
machines at my house. I had to go to each machine and setup an accoun
with a username and password so when I wanted to access the remot
machine, I had an account that it could recognize. Try that and see i
it helps. I'll keep thinking, you can contact me a
(e-mail address removed).
