A message has popped up the last few days asking me to compact my
messages...I always reply Cancel bc I need all of my messages for the work
that I do. I had my Windows Mail up and *POOF*, all my READ emails
disappeared...how do I get them back?

The compaction does nothing to your messages.. it removes dead space from
the index...let it do it.

It sounds like your view is changed to Hide Read Messages...
Click on View - Current View - Show all messages

They disappeared from the Inbox folder?
Open the Inbox folder, then look near the upper right corner.
Does it say "Hide Read Messages" or "Show All Messages"?
You want the latter setting for what is known as the 'Current View'.
Each folder saves its current view setting, so check that setting in
every folder.

The same way you do in any Windows program..
hold Ctrl key and select individual messages,
or select the first message in a range, press Shift key, select then last
message in the range,
or press Ctrl-A to select all messages..

then either drag them to the Inbox, or right-click and select the Move To
Folder..
