My Webs Folder System Attribute Causes Unpredictable Behavior

The FrontPage application's 'My Webs' folder has a system attribute. This is
odd and frustrating since its location at '\My Documents\My Webs' makes it a
candidate for backup
by most backup software and because as a system folder it cannot be backed
up.
In fact for a variety of backup software a folder with the system attribute
can cause unpredictable behavior as 'My Webs' causes our software.

My question is this: "Why does FrontPage's My Webs folder have a system
attribute?"

That's not the case on Windows XP, Steve. as many XP users already know.

While a My Music and My Videos is created under My Documents, the XP
operating system does not install a 'My Web' under My Documents. That folder
is placed there by FrontPage.

Well dang, now I'm going to have to check next time I do a clean install of XP,
because I'm certain I've seen that folder in every machine since ME.
But I'm old and absent minded at times, and to be honest never use the my webs folder.
All of my webs are either in the drive root ( disk based ) or in IIS.
Nor do I rely on automatic backups.

However, back to the original point.
Have you tried to take ownership of the my webs folder?
I suspect the system attribute is being inherited from the parent: My Documents folder
which is considered a system folder.

That said, have you considered using a different location that you can set to be backed up?

The alternative being to manually back up your web sites by publishing to a back up location.
Extra steps I know, but actually much safer.

Well, removing the 'System' permission from the My Webs folder appears to
open a can of worms since once the 'System' attribute is removed the folder
could lose its intended function. However, your replies I've received thus
far have not answered my original question:

"Why does FrontPage's My Webs folder have a system attribute?"

Is there a developer or product manager who can answer this question?

You might best post this question to the Windows newsgroup or contact MS Product support.

However I think the main reason (as it has pointed out that the My Web is installed by FP) is that
FP uses a subset of the FP extensions within the client application, that FP has to have system
level access to the folder to control setting permission on the _private folder as well as allowing
users to create subwebs/subsites, use database components, FP includes component, etc.
