my usb hub

Ok, my computer only has 2 usb ports so i went out and bought a usb hub i
plugged it in it didn't come with any soft ware and it says that it was
installed and working properly in device manager so i plugged my mp3 player
in and reinstalled the soft ware for it thinking i had to but when tryed to
transfer songs to it it say its not working properly so i went into device
manager and it say its unkown device so i was like ok somthings wron try
somthing else, i plugged my printer into it and i get the same problem so i
reinstalled software and it still doesn't work so i tried somthing else i
tried my card reader for my digital camera it works but nothing else will not
my printer not my mp3 player not my mouse on my web camera

Did you, perhaps, buy a USB version 1,1 hub and the devices that don't work
are USB 2.0 devices?

Is it a powered USB hub? What I mean, do you have to plug it in the power
bar and the USB port on the computer. You may not have enough power for your
devices to work
