Out of nowhere none of my USB devices work on my XP laptop. From a mouse,
flash drive, printer all of them cause my computer to freeze and no mouse or
key inputs work. I've already tried a system restore point from multiple
dates and also uninstalling my USB hubs and rebooting. What else can I do???
Hello,
Try this routine:
USB Driver renewal
Copy the text below between the dotted lines, but not the dotted lines
themselves. Open Notepad and paste it in. Save the result in a
suitable location as View_Hidden.reg - making sure that the
default .txt extension doesn't appear in the file name (Save as type =
All Files).
------ cut after this line -------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
\Environment]
"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
------ cut before this line ------
Double click on View_Hidden.reg and click 'Yes' to the Merge into the
Registry.
Next:
Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager ( Start => Run => devmgmnt.msc)
Click on View => Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are *not*
present (i.e. not your hard drive(s)).
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say 'No' to any reboot
prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't
uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the
entries there as well.
When this is done, shutdown the computer and remove the power cord for
a few minutes. Then reboot TWICE.
Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.
