Random lockups can be caused by bad drivers, although freezes are
usually caused by bad hardware. You haven't told us anything about your
computer, or answered the most important troubleshooting question of
all: what changed between the time things worked and the time they
didn't? If you can identify a change and then the behavior, reverse the
change. If you can't identify this, then do basic hardware
troubleshooting:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).
