Can anyone help me? My screen seems to be 'white' or too bright maybe and
for the life of me, I cant figure out how to change it back. Ive gone into
settings and all of that and changed windows themes etc, but when I open IE
it still shows my computer screen as white..the tool bars etc have no colour
at all. It almost appears too bright, but its not, Ive tried that. Can
anyone help?
1. What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
2. What kind of computer - laptop or desktop?
3. If desktop, what kind of monitor?
4. Approx. age of equipment?
Without more specifics from you, I can only give you a general
troubleshooting path.
a. If this is a laptop, boot from a rescue cd such as Knoppix to see if
the problem carries over into the different operating system. If it
does, this is a hardware problem and your laptop's screen and/or video
chip is broken and will need to be replaced. Contact the laptop mftr.'s
tech support since you can't fix this yourself.
c. If this is a desktop, attach the machine to a different monitor. If
the display works correctly you now know that your original monitor has
died and needs to be replaced.
c-1. If the display problem carries over to a different monitor, then
you know the problem is hardware on your desktop. Start by swapping out
the video card for a known-working one. If this solves the issue,
replace the video card.
As you can see, troubleshooting this requires that you have access to
other computers, monitors, and hardware. If you don't, then take the
machine to a reputable computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).
