I have an AMD AthlonXP 2100+, but my computer says its a
2700+.

uhhh, whats up with that ?
in my bios CPU speed is on Manual, that was the default.

i've changed it to 2.1Ghz and it didn't make a
difference. so i dunno

This sounds like a bios issue. Contact MB manfacturer and
find out if there is an update to flash. It is also
remotely possible you have an Athlon XP2700+ cpu. OEMs and
others make mistakes. If this is the case-rejoice, you
got a freebie.

What motherboard?

Also, the AMD Athlon XP2100+ is a thoroughbred chip, but not a Barton. You
can not get any more than about 1.9 Ghz from this chip overclocked, and that
is pushing the high limits.

In your BIOS set the processor for "Auto" and not "Manual". Reboot, and see
what it say's. It is not unusual for that Processor to register as a 2200 or
even a 2000 depending on the temperature.

But, like BC said in the post before this one, if your computer is
recognizing that chip as a 2700+ chances are that's exactly what you have.

Have you tried Sysoft Sandra? (Small system info proggy)

A 2100+ does *NOT* have a clock speed of 2.1GHz - it has a clock speed of
1.6GHz. Somehow, you've managed to achieve the impossible and soft
overclocked your CPU. I was under the impression that this was impossible
with Athlon XP chips, but you appear to have managed it. I have been told -
and read - that to overclock an XP required the resoldering of bridges. But
somehow you've managed to circumvent that and soft clock the CPU as a 2700+
has a speed of 2.1GHz. I would not recommend it however and would strongly
advise that you check your cooling as your fan may not be adequate if your
CPU has really been overclocked such a considerable amount (about 27%).

Bollocks - I've a 1700+ (1.47) overclocked to a 2700+ (2.1) in the system
I'm running right now. That's an increase of nearly 50%. A company called
Chillblast, here in the UK, are selling chips that can be overclocked (if
you know what you're doing) to at least a 50% increase.

You're full of it. An AMD Thoroughbred chip is not capable of that kind of
over-clocking. A Barton isn't even capable of those kinds of gains. Not even
with the bridge connections soldered with gold.

I have GOT to send a copy of your post to my buddy at AMD. Talk about
getting a good belly laugh.
