some one please help

i have three hard drives and a burner my one hard drive
sometimes shows up and said its not formated but it is
other times it works it always showes up in the on the
screen when i boot
i tryed instaling my old 98 and all rens like a dream
wish my xp did so please help

Run the Diagnostic software provided by your hard disk
manufacturer to determine the cause.
Windows XP can more readily detect and recover from
problems with hardware. Windows 98 usually just locks up
without a word as to why.

Common Troubleshooting Facilities in Windows XP:
System Event Logs (eventvwr.exe)
Windows STOP Bluse Screen crash information
Windows shell error messages indicating a hardware problem
or system error.
