My Pictures folder hanging!

D

David

We have been downloading our digi picture files through
Fuji Finepix into various folders within My Pictures.

When you open the foler either as thumbnails, filmstrip,
or small icons, the computer starts to hang. It takes
ages for it to show all the thumbnails and if you try to
move the filmstrip along before its finished then it
crashes and sometimes loses pictures. Its like there is
nto enough Ram. But 256 should be easily enough.

Very odd. Can anyone offer any help on this?

Thx

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

If that's not the problem...try running Disk Cleanup,
Error Checking and Defrag. Also...if you have a
high resolution camera...3, 4, 5 megapixels....
more RAM might be a good idea.

I found that increasing the size of my Paging File
made an improvement:

If you have lots of images saved in your MY
Pictures folder, it may be a good idea to transfer
some of them to removable media. Not only will
this free up some resources but it's excellent
insurance.

.

Hey thanks for that.

I had checked most of the ares noted but it was the
generating thumbnails within Photoshop that was the
problem.

Thanks once again for the help. :>
