my pc sticks at the intel desktop boards screen for approximately 3 minutes
prior to loading. After it loads it runs normally without any problems. I
have an identical machine, which I have running without the startup issue. I
have tried switching out all the components. they all run fine on the other
pc and all do not affect the startup on the problematic one. I have run all
the virus scan and adware tests (mcafee online, norton installed on my pc
with most recent definitions, ad-aware, microsoft antispyware beta) and i
have come up with no intrusions. I have updated the bios to the most recent
and downloaded the sp2 for windows xp. I ran a sfc /scannow and it completed
without issues. I have tried all jumper positions on my hard drive and
tried removing all the disc drives/cd drives. It did not change. My board
is an intel D845GEBV2 and my processor is a 2.4 ghz. I do not have SATA
support on my board and my drives are not SATA capable. Also my bios
configurations on both pcs are identicle. any help would be greatly
appreciated

Does it boot ok in safe mode?

Try some clean boot troubleshooting

Had a simillar problem with an Intel Desktop Board a while back, and
seem to remember a setting in the BIOS relating to a startup delay.
But the setting was only in the order of 0 to 30seconds, not 3
minutes, sorry to not be more specific. IIRC it was to do with
boot from LAN ?. Check both BIOSs for differences
