You may have had an AntiVirus program running when you installed SP2 or there
could have been spyware or a virus on the system. Any of these would have
stopped SP2 from being installed correctly.
If you have a retail version of XP I would recommend contacting Microsoft
technical support. They may be able to walk you through uninstalling SP2 and
getting your computer back to where it was before.
If you have an OEM version of XP (recovery disks) you will have to contact
the manufacturer of the comptuer. I beleive they are a little more limited
as to what can be done but they may have some options for you as well.
If you are not comfortable with speaking over the phone to technical support
you should take your computer to a hardware technician.
