My Outlook recieves messages via POP3 but will not send - ideas?

I've long had Outlook configured to send and receive messages from an email
account using POP3 service. Recently, Outlook stopped sending messages. If
I create a new outgoing email message, Outlook will attempt to send it three
times and then stops trying to send messages.

The POP3 login must be working, because Outlook does conect to the email
account and does download all of my incoming messages.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Disable e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program.

Authenticate to the SMTP server. Check the settings in the e-mail account.

POP is for receiving, SMTP is for sending. You need to check your SMTP
server settings; you may need to authenticate to the outgoing/SMTP server or
use an alternate port. Check with your ISP or whoever manages the SMTP
server you use.
