My Network Places

Windows XP

I’ve lost all of the connections at My Network Places. When I try to view
workgroup computers I get this error message:

Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

Now, I’m logging in as the administrator, and I have no idea what is going
on. I have all service packs installed. All I’m trying to do is network
between my Powerbook and PC desktop. I can get to the internet from the
Powerbook, but I can’t share files.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advanced,

Jeffrey

Isn't a Powerbook an Apple? You have to run Samba on the Apple to
network with Windows.

All I want to do is file share. The Apple is fine, much more intuitive then
the PC. For some reason My Network Places wont let me add any computers or
show any work groups. I've tried to add using the wizzards, but to no avail.

I have the same probem right now with a Sony Vaio PCG-k23 laptop and two Dell
Desktops. After upgrade to XP SP2. The problem occurred. I fixed it once
by recover to Sony original. I ugraded the laptop to SP2 again and the
problem occurred again. SONY techs refused to help saying it is software
problem. The NIC is Realtek RTL 8139/810x PCI Fast Ethernet with latest
driver. The home network function OK when the laptop is booted in Safemode
with networking. It can connect to the Internet and share files. I tried to
disable services one by one but still not successful yet. Any idea?

Thanks.

I went to:

http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm

and by filling in the forms, and doing what it said to do, The problem seems
to have been solved.

I removed one firewall (the one built in Windows), and disconnected my
router and cable modem, then reconnected them in order. I didn't think it
worked until I booted the computer up the next day. Now I can see the whole
workgroup, and I am able to once again share files.

is the bomb.
