My network places is empty in Windows XP?

Barry

This one is probably really simple, but I'm having some
trouble working it out....

When you click on "My Network Places" through Windows
Explorer on some Windows XP machines, it shows
you "Entire Network" and "add a network place" in the
right hand window pane. However, on most of our machines
it does not show anything at all.

This makes it harder to browse the network, as you either
have to do a search for a computer through the "Search"
button in the explorer interface, or use the "My
Computer" interface, which gives you the "My Network
Places" on the left hand window. This then gives you
the "Entire Network" on the left hand side along with the
following options:

Network Tasks:
Add a network place
View network connections
Search Active Directory

Other Places:
Desktop
**Entire Network**
My Computer
My Documents
Printers and Faxes

Is there a simple way to get the Windows Explorer
interface to give me the "Entire Network" option so I
don't have to keep changing methods?

BTW The Windows Explorer method still works fine on all
the Windows 2000 machines we have too.

Thanks

Hi Barry,

We only show those icons (Add Network Place Wizard/Entire Network)when you
have the Task Pane turned off. You can do this by clicking Tools - Folder
Options. Then selecting to use Classic windows folders.

This will turn off the pane in the left hand side of the window and allow
you to see the icons for My Network Places. The drawback is that you will
not have this task pane in other folders.

Hope this helps.
