My Music Folder has gone crazy

My Music Folder has lost its mind. The other day most files(not all)
disappeared from the folder with no trace. I ran a search for files but could
not find. Now the funny part is all my music files are still in WMP iTUNES
and RA. When i nright click on any file in my library of WMP it show the file
location still being that of My Music Folder. Also I went to try to
re-download files to My Music Folder but it tells me that, the file already
exists in this folder do you want to replace it. There are still 14 files in
that folder that di not disappear. Dont know what to do next. DOnt know if
this is a windows issue or some spyware, trojan, or worm. Also have not been
able to download SP2 updates only D/Ls 2 of the 8. Any info or advice
appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know of any specific malware that eats music files but there's been
stranger things known to happen. You can take a look here to eliminate that
as a possibility:

Hello. check to see that the files are not hidden. This can be done in
tools/folder options dialogue.

Hello,

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. All my music just disappeared
from my computer. In my case it was music I copied from my CD's so I just
recopied everything. Unfortunately for you I have no idea what happened
there. Do you have the most up to date version of WMP? Good luck trying to
find a fix and sorry I couldn't help you but I thought I would just let you
(and any other dismissive minds) know that you are not alone. Let us know
what you come up with. I would definately give the Hidden Files fix a go:

"To view hidden files and folders, follow these steps:a. Click Start, and
then click My Computer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View
tab.
c. Click Show hidden files and folders, and then click to clear the
Hide protected operating system files check box."

A few more questions comes to mind...

1. What file type are the missing files and what file type are the 14 files
that are still visible?
2. Are the files protected with digital rights managment?
3. What version of Windows Media Player do you have?
4. What Version and what service packs do you have installed in Windows?

Good Luck!
