My .mpg clip does not appear on projector. Help

I am trying to make a presentation work for a projected presentation in
Powerpoint.

The problem is that even though the .mpg file plays on my laptop screen,
when it's is playing through the projector, nothing appears but a black
square and you cannot see the mpg movie play.

Can anyone help me understand how to make the movie visible on the screen as
well as the laptop please?
