Whenever I try to insert a movie in powerpoint 2003 and click to play the
movie seems to "play" (the time counter is running) accorinding to
powerpoint, but the image is just black - and I can play the same movie
without problems in the windows media player outside of powerpoint!
How can I fix that?
P.S.: the same presentation with the same movie runs fine on another computer

My bet is you need to upgrade to DirectX 9.

thanks, I tried that, but unfortunately did not work.
As before the 1st image of the movie is visible in powerpoint, but when I
play it out of powerpoint the image tuns black. I am really not 100% sure,
but it might be that it worked some time ago. Is it possible that something
was corrupted due to the installation of other programs or a virus etc. from
the internet? - everything else in powerpoint works fine! Trying to restore
my system to an earlier point did also not work (specifically also because I
don't know, if and when this stoppped working) I hate to completely
re-install my system for this - but I desperately need this for an official
presentation - I am really worried. Is there a way to check that at least
everything about the operating system is correct?

If you can, fire the media file off to me in an email and I'll see what's
causing the problem.

the problem exists for all my vieo files regardless of the format -
I just tried a meg file down loaded from the internet, which plays fine,
when I double click in the internet explorer. This automatically opens the
media player and plays the file. So it seems the connection out of the
explorer to the media player works.
This time the meg file was not black in powerpoint , when playing, but
lookes like a bluish distorted image of a windows folder (nothing moving at
all)

Sounds to me like something has gone south in your system setup, probably
the easiest way to correct it is to download and install a fresh version of
Media Player.
