My mouse has gone wild

I have a wireless wheel mouse from microsoft. It's gone wild since yesterday. I've not installed anything... it just happened. It moves pages up and down as if I were moving the wheel. I have XP Home in Spanish (I'm in Mexico)... I downloaded the new driver and software and installed it. I disabled smart movement. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. It's driving me crazy! Can anyone help?

Hey i think i have your answer!
Try using a mousepad that doesn't have anything printed on
it. THat may help you and if you aren't using a mousepad
you should get one. USing a optical mouse on glass or
something with writing or pictures on it can cause it to
move all over the place.

Hope this helps!

P.S. please tell me if this is the problem.
