my keyboard is typing wrong characters

My colleague has a problem where hi is trying to type @ but getting " or a |
instead of #. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to solve this
please.

Hi,

Its because your colleague has the numlock option turned on on the keyboard.

Turn it off. Depnding on the keyboard diff ways to turn it off i think.

Just click the numlock key & try typing. If that doesnt work, try
Shift+Numlock.

keyboard is set on USA

You can change it to uk by going to your
control panel - Regional; and language options - Languages tab - details -
setting tab

then set your keyboard to uk
