my installed "open type" font does not display as available

I have an open-type font that is not displaying in the available list of
fonts, in Word, or any of my Office applications. It is installed, and so
indicating in the fonts folder.

What else must be done? The computer has recently been reconfigured after a
crash. All updates are downloaded and installed for all software.

Word will only display fonts that the current printer driver is capable of
printing. It will not display screen fonts or fonts excluded by the driver
settings.

-- Thanks for the reply, (which I do already understand); Am I incorrect in my understanding that open type is compatible across both platforms? That was the impression I got from the font seller, when choosing between Truetype and open.

-- Graham, Also, please note, other open type faces are actually displaying and able to be used.

Similar problem here, but it probably has nothing to do with the printer:

We'd recently purchased the Avenir font family and installed it on systems
using Office 2003 (+ Windows XP). The following fonts were installed-
Avenir Black, Avenir Book, Avenir Heavy, Avenir Light, Avenir Medium, Avenir
Oblique and Avenir Roman.

In the Office 2003 programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc), only Avenir Light,
Book, Roman and Medium show up, along with the font "styles" of Regular,
Italic, Bold, and Medium. At the bottom of the Font menu (in Word), it says
"This is a scalable printer font..."

In Office 2007, the same 4 show up, but now add support for the Oblique
subfamily (and in the Roman font, Heavy and Heavy Oblique are there, plus
Medium displays Black and Black oblique - so that covers all of them).

So, without saying "just upgrade to Office 2007" or "get the TrueType
version instead" is there *any* plug-in or add-in/on solution to get the
subfamilies to show up properly in Office 2003?

Paul & Graham,

My Font-seller did reply to me; they were surprised at my trouble and
worked the problem at their end. It turns out that the Benguiat Gothic type
face (open) installs under a different name in the avalable list, namely
'ITC', or the developer's name, as opposed to the face name as with other
type faces. It does function normally in all office applications.

This seems to be true of all ITC fonts.
