My hyperlinks do not work with merge to email

I'm using office 2002 - outlook with word as editor. I can create hyperlinks
in my word document, but when I do a "merge to email"
I tested on my own email address and it seems that the links are simply
converted to text and thus do not link to my specific web page. However when
I do a "merge to document" the links remain blue and are not lost. How do I
correct this, if possible.

Outlook build number? What format are you merging to -- plain text or HTML?
