My humble apologies - WinMe question

Hi

Firstly, let me give my humble apologies for invading an XP group with an ME
question, but you guys are my last hope!!!

The problem that I have (I think) is that I am missing 'My network Places'
and also missing the IEEE802.1x network protocol.

I have connected a Safecom wireless adapter to my WinMe laptop and
everything works fine as in the adapter finds the signal and connects, no
problem, but I cannot connect to any websites.

I checked my other old ME machine and looked at why one worked and one
didn't and the only thing I can see thats different is that the laptop that
I cannot connect to the net, is missing 'My Network places' and also missing
the IEEE802.1x protocol.

Where do I get the missing protocol from?

Is it anything to do with the missing 'My network places'....I have been
told that I can get TweakUI and restore the 'My network places' icon, but
will that solve my problem???

Appreciate your help on this matter and again apologies for invading an XP
group, but just hoping some of you intelligent people remember the old ME.

Many thanks
TK

My memory of that says that you need to add a protocol to the Local Area
Connection. Rightclick that icon in Explorer, Properties, and look for
"Client for Microsoft Networks". It might be as simple as checking a
checkbox there in the list, or using the "Add' button to go into the
Microsoft stuff to find it to add.
Rightclicking the "Authentication" tab in the Properties on the LAN icon
should also show you a checkbox for the IEEE 802.1x stuff.
Another thing I seem to remember was that ME needed to use the same
workgroup as the wireless device.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply.

Turns out I did have the protocol it was just worded different to what I was
thinking it should of been. Also turns out that it was all connecting ok as
far as wireless adapter & router goes but still had no internet. Don't know
how but it seems to have had something to do with Microsoft network logon at
start up, even though I was putting in the right password because as soon as
I got rid of that then everything was fine.

Thanks
TK
