My external HD won't power up

I used this drive as a back up source.

It seems, I needed to back up the back up!!!

Since it won't power up, (and I've tried many configuations, including
putting in another drive to make sure it was getting power)
any sugestions on data retrival for this HD?

The new HD I just purchased, works well in the old external case, but that
old Maxtor just won't ignite~!

TIA

TIA!

Ouch; you've done the best test you could, I think. You could try
installing it as an internal drive so you're not useing anything it works
with from the housing. If that fails, it's probably dead.

Sometimes, depending on how old it is, a drive that won't spin up CAN be
manually started IFF the motor or any part of the spinning mechanism is
physically available. Just use your finger to give it a spin and see if it
takes off. If not, it's toast to any but maybe a shop and they're
expensive.
This could also ruin the drive mechanisms, so it's a LAST RESORT!

If it does spin up, sometimes a SINGLE drop of sewing machine oil in the
right place will let it keep starting long enough to get the data off it.
