My external HD makes my windows stall

Hey.

When i plug my external Harddrive to my USB 2.0 PCI card, windows
stops. Then i Push my card out of my laptop, windows starts again.

If i plug Harddrive in a USB1.1 it work fine.

What could be the problem. I have installed the drivers, there came
with the PCI card.

I have a dell laptop 2650
Windows XP pro (SP2)

hope someone can help me!
 
Is the external unit USB 2 or USB 1 compatible?

This should not be an issue with USB 1 device in USB 2 port, but can
sometimes be an issue in the reverse.

Your drive functions in USB 1 port, [without any error message as identified
in the posting] so it is presumably a USB 1 device. This should have no
problems being inseterd in the USB 2 port.

One can possibly assume a problem lies within the USB 2 card and not the
external Hard Drive.
