My Excel and Word files lock up when iopened for about 10 seconds

When I open an existing Excel (or Word) file, the screen locks for about 10
seconds. At first I thought it related to Norton virus scan, but I just
downloaded the latest version and it still occurs. There is no lost data or
problems using the application except this initial locking. Sometimes it
occurs when I save and close a file.

Has anyone had this problem?
