MY EVENT LOG IS BLANK

I've noticed my logs in event viewer are blank.
For example when I click on system log the indicator tells
me that i have 2,525 event(s) however when i look at the
right panel it's blank.

Has anyone seen this before? If so HELP!!!!

This system has:
PIII 833Mhz
512 MB RAM
8 gig drive with 4 gig free space.
