My email account is set to check my mail every 3 minutes, but it does not
check it unless I physically open outlook every time. Also when i get email
in my inbox my alerts do not work, i have set up the visual pop up, and the
sound alert and it does not work at all. and YES i am using a pop3 account,
not a hotmail one. Cheers

I don't think that you can expect anything to work unless it is open and
operating. In order for Outlook to check for mail you need to open Outlook
and then minimize it.

Thanks. Just worked that out before you answered me. For all those that need
the same help.....when outlook is open, right click on the symbol in the
bottom right hand corner...Check the 'hide when minimized' option. Then
minimise outlook...it takes it off your task bar, and leaves it open. Thanks
for the help.

that is FAR too frequently. set it for TEN minutes as a minimum otherwise
you will lock up the server.

but it does not check it unless I physically open outlook every time.

Correct. outlook will not check for email without being open. Neither will
any OTHER email client do that AFAIK.....
