my dvd and hard drive wont work when i plug it in new computer

actually my dvd player wont work when i plug my internal hard drive
from old computer to new one
I ask the tech guy he said it should plug in the dvd player
when i connected it to the xp hard drive it would run the old windows ME
so he said he need an hour work to recofigure it

so how do i do that and did i plug in the dvd player right

On the back of HD/CD/DVD drives are jumpers that need to be set as to the
drives location on the cable.
If the DVD drive is at the end of the EIDE cable it is in a Master position
and the jumpers should be set for master.
If the DVD is on the middle connection it is in a Slave position and as such
the jumpers should be set accordingly.
